The Metropolitan Wastewater Management Commission is responsible for the regional wastewater system in Eugene, Springfield, and neighboring parts of Lane County.

Pollution affects all of us: our homes, our neighborhoods, and our environment. There are 2 simple things you can do in your own house to help us fight pollution and keep our water clean!

Fats, Oils, and Grease (FOG) build up gradually in pipes. This can affect your own wastewater pipes in your home, and it can also create problems in your neighborhood’s pipes or the region’s infrastructure. Clogs and damage from FOG can lead to backups and spillovers of wastewater, and they require time, labor, and money to fix.

To help prevent this, just collect the grease after you cook and throw it in the trash! We provide free FOG kits to help make it easy, convenient, and mess-free.

Wipes can get caught in wastewater pipes and get stuck, leading to clogs and backups. In the regional wastewater system, they can damage pumps and take a whole neighborhood’s system offline.

To help keep your pipes flowing, throw all wipes in the trash. Even the ones that say they’re “flushable” can still cause serious issues!
