Metropolitan Wastewater Management Commission Adopts Budget for Fiscal Year 2024-25

Springfield, OR – At its monthly meeting on Friday, June 14, the Metropolitan Wastewater Management Commission (MWMC) adopted its budget for Fiscal Year 2024-25.

The operating budget is approximately $24 million and includes a rate change for users, adjusting fees by 5.5 percent, translating to approximately a $1.66 monthly increase (per 5,000 gallons of wastewater treated). The budget increase was primarily due to inflation, the need to maintain environmental sustainability and pollution prevention programs, and a current need to replace electrical infrastructure critical to the MWMC’s ability to clean wastewater 24/7, 365 days per year. Wastewater staff also continued operating the Renewable Natural Gas facility as an additional source of revenue. It is projected to bring in approximately $1.5 million in the next fiscal year.

Before the MWMC formally adopted its budget, it was approved by all the governing bodies in the partnership, including the Eugene and Springfield City Councils and the Lane County Board of County Commissioners.
